Offshore Circuit Racing (OCR) is a recognised offshore powerboat category administered by the RYA,Britain's national authority for watersports.
The sport combines the seamanship of offshore powerboat racing with the multi-lap infighting of inshore circuit racing.
Both boats and engines are standard production models and so have a high identity with the public.
OCR is often said to be "To the world of offshore powerboat racing what saloon car racing is to motorsport"
Races are run over short courses, between 1 and 2 miles per lap to obtain 2 minute lap times for either 55 minutes plus a lap or split heats of 30 and 25 minutes consecutively, plus a lap, racing on Saturday and Sunday with 10 venues (20 Races) per season between May and October.
Due to new rules it is now technically feasible to compete in an average conventional family ski-boat.
A full spec national boat would be:
A Class:Min 18 foot upto 1850cc 2stroke 2200cc 4stroke(approx140hp)
B Class:Min 16 foot upto 1350cc 2stroke 1600cc 4stroke(approx 90hp)
C Class:Min 14 foot upto 1000cc 2stroke 1300cc 4stroke(approx 70hp)
You can obtain a national event licence (max 2 per season) to compete in National Races, however basic licences can be purchased to compete in the Devon Cup Basic Series.
It is spectacular to watch a field of powerboats jockey for position at speeds of up to 65mph as they power up to turnbouys at high speeds leaping and twisting through clouds of spray.
OCR race closer to the spectators than any other powerboat series, making it one of the most exhilarating races to watch.Able to race in heavy weather,OCR is exciting, dependable, and thrilling for both spectators and competitors alike.
